A HISTORY OF CHARITY
Thrift Stores have operated for social service organizations for many decades and in many cases operate under a similar structure. The first thrift store began in Seattle for the benefit of a local V.A. Hospital when a garage sale raised funds for much needed television sets to be placed in patient rooms. The sale was such a success that a retail location was established, thus pioneering the thrift industry. Since then thrift operations assist charitable causes nationwide. Every metropolis in the United States has a thrift store providing needed clothing and employment to the community, all while assisting a local charity.
