How To Remove Price Markings

Updated: Feb 11, 2021

Have you ever wondered what exactly is used to price items at the thrift store and what are some of the easiest ways to remove these markings? It is common practice to mark and price miscellaneous items with a wax pencil, also called a crayon marking. Below we will review the three easiest ways to remove the crayon marking from your items.

One of the most commonly used methods of removing crayon marking is using a little bit of dishwashing soap. This is a convenient method because dish soap is readily available in just about every home. To remove the marking just apply a tad of soap to a rag, or paper towel and gently rub the marking until it disappears. You may need to apply a little bit more soap but we recommend little amounts at a time.

The next item used to remove crayon marking from items is the eraser. It’s as easy as erasing the marks directly off of the item. Not everyone has an eraser laying around but if you do, this just might be the easiest way to remove marks.

Lastly, we’ve found that hand sanitizer can be an effective way to remove crayon marking and with hand sanitizer so regularly available these days it might be the quickest way to get items cleaned off. Just like with the dishwashing soap, place small amount on a rag or paper towel and gently run until markings are fully removed.
