Sunshine Thrift Store

Just about everyone likes to save money, but we also like to have nice things. Well, at the Sunshine Thrift Store in Clinton Township, you can do both. At the Thrift Store, you can find almost anything you would find at a department store — including clothing, electronics, books, furniture, knickknacks and more — at much lower prices than you would pay at a department store.

The Thrift Store receives its merchandise from the National Kidney Foundation, a nonprofit organization that accepts donations of used items from households and sells these donations to Sunshine Thrift Store. "We have had an excellent relationship with the National Kidney Foundation for many years," says General Manager Jerry Divozzo. "They benefit because they receive money from us for the items they collect, we benefit because we are able to sell the merchandise to the public. Our customers benefit because they are able to purchase quality items at deep discount prices."

The Thrift Store has been in business for 11 years, and, besides the low prices, the other factors that have made it successful are the overall neat appearance of the store, the quality of the merchandise, the variety of items sold and the hard working management staff and crew.

"Before we put anything out on the sales floor, our experienced crew carefully sorts through the donated items and reject and clothing that is torn or stained and any other items that are broken or unusable," says Divozzo.

The store also has a unique rotation system in place, whereby most of the items on the floor are replaced with new merchandise about every four weeks, and in between they are continuously putting out new things. This way, customers can come in several times a week and generally find something new to purchase.

Divozzo gives much of the credit for the store's success to his two store managers, Linda Lee and Yvonne Mahone and Cathy Hauser the Telemarketing Coordinator, who together have 20 years of experience with the company and know how to keep their customers satisfied.

The Sunshine Thrift Store is located on Gratiot, North of 16 Mile in Clinton Township. Store hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
